View of the Laigu Glacier from Songtsam Laigu Lodge
Discover the breathtaking wonder of glaciers at Songtsam Laigu Lodge—a destination where nature’s majesty meets unparalleled serenity. Laigu Lodge was designed with a strong focus on environmental sustainability. It set a record as the highest and most challenging construction project in Songtsam‘s history. The hotel was first built in Shanghai, divided into 43 modules, and then transported over 23 days across half of China, via the Qinghai-Tibet Highway, to reach Laigu Village, where the modules were assembled into the final structure.
Awarded as winner for best Architectural Design / Heritage Architecture by The Architecture MasterPrize in 2019, the hotel boasts 20 luxurious accommodations including 16 deluxe rooms and 4 superior suites.
Thanks to Laigu Lodge, guests can enjoy breathtaking landscapes that many people only dream of witnessing once in their lifetime, along with an unparalleled glacier experience. Home to Tibet’s largest maritime glacier cluster, the Laigu Glacier, it boasts six glaciers: Meixi, Yalong, Rojiao, Dongga, Xiongjia, and Niuma, each winding like a giant dragon. Standing by these active maritime formations and hearing the cracks of breaking ice is an awe-inspiring encounter of nature’s raw power.
Unforgettable mountain hiking and horseback trips are available, led by local guides, and filled with incredible views of not only the icy blue glaciers, but also of snow-capped peaks, villages and forests. After returning to the lodge, treat yourself to thoughtfully crafted, wholesome meals featuring locally sourced ingredients—succulent yak meat from alpine pastures, Tibetan pork raised by villagers, fresh vegetables from Bomi, walnuts from Tacheng, and fine wine from Shangri-La—all savored against the breathtaking backdrop of mountain vistas framed by expansive picture windows.
